Reading people through their eyes?

I know the eyes are the window to the soul and all, but is it true that you can read someone's personality or the kind of person they are by looking into their eyes/the expression on their face? I met this man at work a few weeks ago. He was half chinese and half cambodian. That was like my first day there and I had never seen/met this man before. Anyways to make a long story short, he approached me and asked what my name was and I told him. The next thing he said was, "(my name), you're very kind; you're like a lamb." Then he said he wanted to be my friend and he started telling me a lil' about himself, where he was from, what he came to do in Canada, when he came (he was a new immigrant) etc. It just surprised me that someone I had never met before can read me. Ever since that day we met, he was always very nice to me, always trying to talk to me, always saying hi and asking how I am. Have you ever met anyone that read you, or can you yourself read people through their eyes?
