Warrants???

The police conducted a search without a warrant they even stated they did not have one. They claimed they had recevied a tip. They found an incriminating firearm in the suspect's room. He had no criminal record and was only arrested after the police found out he had unpaid parking tickets, which was after the search. Can this be used to convict the suspect?
